For many people the concept of site promotion is something that they take to an extreme. They overly promote their websites and blogs to the point of being an annoyance to the Internet community at large. Then there are other people who wonder this question all to often:

Is site promotion actually worth my time?

In some cases: No it is not worth your time. For some websites, they rely on word of mouth to get you to visit their website. Or, the website itself is brand new, and has yet to develop.

Here is a list of reasons to avoid site promotion:

1) You site is new, and does not have a lot of content on it, especially if it is a blog. "A lot of content" is defined as more than 40 original content blog posts.

2) You are unsure exactly what to promote on your website.

3) You are doing it because someone said you should do this. This is possibly one of the worst reasons to promote your website, as many are doing the same thing, and not understanding how, or when, or why they should promote.

4) You are planning to use marketing sites such as Google AdWords, and you are not sure if you will make back your money.

5) You are not yet into learning about keywords, linking, traffic building, SEO, or anything that is needed to properly promote your site.

6) Your are writing a website purely as a hobby.

If these reasons do not apply to your website or your blog, then website promotion can begin, and should be treated as a business that it has become.

Below are a list of reasons why site promotion is worth your time

1) If you are willing to learn about the search engines, you will get targeted traffic and this can increase earnings from freelance work to clicks on affiliate programs.

2) If you are selling a product or service, this is the method in which to do this online. Understand that if you use a method where you spend money, you must follow a budget.

3) when you have extra time and money to spend, you can get as complex as you like, with a high rate of return on investment.

4) You will learn to expand your business, and this can lead to more network contacts, which can lead to more employment, and possibly employees.

5) The more you promote quality the more likely others will promote your work for you, on their blogs or their websites. This is why guest blogging is becoming a source of extra income and a good way to promote your website.
